The American School of Madrid, founded in 1961, is a private coeducational day school which offers an educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities.
The curriculum is that of the United States with emphasis in the higher grades upon preparing students for college. Instruction is in English. All students are required to study Spanish. The school’s testing program includes the National Merit (SAT) and College Entrance Examination Board tests. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Most of the graduates attend colleges and universities in the U.S. Some continue their studies in Spain and in other European countries. The PK-12 program is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the International Baccalaureate Organization. The school is also accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education and offers the Spanish Official Program.
The lower and upper school programs are housed in three buildings, ten kilometers from Madrid, near Aravaca, with ample room for outdoor activities. Facilities include a gymnasium/auditorium, a library, cafeteria, infirmary, computer labs, tennis courts, football field, softball field, weight room and track. In 2008 the new Center for the Arts housing a multi-purpose auditorium, an exhibition gallery, and a visual and performing arts classroom wing, will be opened.
